Beach Get Away

After a tough week at work I felt a need to get away for the weekend so we got up early and headed down to one of our favorite areas to visit,to my surprise I was shock to see so many people at the beach      in Middle of January so much for these towns being Ghost Towns in the winter months.

Bethlehem Steel

After watching a PBS special about Bethlehem Steel it reminds me how a big giant when down the drain and turned there backs on the people that gave there sweat and guts and sometimes with there lives. And the battle with continue saying the Union drained the Mighty Giant and other's will say Corporate Greed took over but we all will agree that overseas imports didn't help either.I as a photographer came upon Bethlehem Steel much to late by the time I was really into photography the plant was pretty much gone and being made into a Casino and most of the buildings were all gone forever.I have a Facebook friend by the name of Bobby Deibert that worked there and could probably tell you the Real Story of Bethlehem Steel

Seaside Heights,NJ

I have to admit when I first saw the video of the Sandy's aftermath of Seaside Heights I wanted to get a Picture of the Roller Coaster in the Ocean,so I made the trip down on Sunday and when I first got there it was still dark but when first light came I was in just awe and I only saw a very small part of the town.I arrived at the casino pier and found and older gentleman just standing there looking at what was left of the Boardwalk and Roller Coaster that he rode as a kid and now it was all gone,he also said the building we were standing in front of was a Bar and Billiards Place that he had spent many of nights for $1.00 draft night with his eye's starting to tear he quick wiped them away before I saw him.

Ortley Beach/ Sandy's Aftermath

Words and Pictures will not do justice on how bad this little beach town just North of Seaside Heights really is.I didn't know what I was expecting this morning around 4:00 am when I left for the New Jersey Shore but when I arrived on the outskirts of Tom's River,NJ around 6:30 am the whole day change.I was just in awe with all of the debris lining the streets was to be around 6 feet high and to this day this little town has No Power No Heat No Gas No Drinkable Water and there is no way to tell when they will.

Braddock,Pa

This is a short story of a town that once stood tall and then how it became a ghost town.Braddock once a town that full of life Clothing stores,Bars,Five and Dime,Candy,News Stands,Corner Grocery Stores,Bakery's,Banks and a town of Occupied Buildings and then the end came Steel Plants closed and slowly family's started to leave one by one and the town was going down the tubes real quick.

Today the town of Braddock is 90% empty YES I said 90% it was really sad to see in person that a town went so bad so fast in such a short time and there are towns like this all over this country.I didn't spend as much time here as I wanted to the weather was not real good that day and when I go back I will make another visit to Braddock for sure.

Sandy Aftermath/OCMD

After hearing one of my favorite places to was going to get hit by Hurricane Sandy I was real worried about the place that my family has enjoyed going to for the past 15 years was gonna be washed away.So after spending a couple after the storm and trying to find what news that I could find I decided to take a ride down to see any damage and to my surprise there was very little damage. That was until I made it down to the Boardwalk and the fishing pier was partly missing and the Inlet was full of sand.

Brownsville,Pa

I first went to see in Brownsville,Pa in the early part of June of 2012 and from my first sight of it there was some kind of connection to the town that was slowly fading away. Not sure if it is the old building's with beautiful stone work or the feel of a run down town that was left for dead but there something peaceful about walking around this town.I really have to thank Evan Williams II for showing me around this town and really looking forward to heading out again to get a closer to the town that is growing on me.
